5 Months Old

Holy Moly that went fast.  I feel like I just wrote Charlie's 4 month blog post.  As I write we are finishing our week long Spring Break.  Boy was that ever needed.  I feel like time is whirling by us like a speeding train, it's been nice to "stop and smell the roses" this week.  Here are the rosey and not-so-rosey moments from Month 5.

The Rosey Moments
At Charlie's 4 month appointment he weighed in at 18 lb 6 oz and was 27 inches long.  That is good for the 95% in both categories.  Charlie officially does not fit into 75% of his clothes and is wearing mostly 9-12 month outfits.  Unfortunately his 9-12 month clothes were for the summer season, so we've had to do some wardrobe shuffling this month. :)
Perspective on his size. Yikes.

Charlie rolled over!  From his tummy to his back first on Feb. 24th, then on March 10th from his back to his tummy!  Ever since these two monumental occasions he has only rolled again a handful of times, but he likes to twist and turn when laying on the floor.

Giggles, playtime and the dying cat.
Charlie continues to delight us with his dimply smile and laugh.  Chaz gets the best laugh when he tickles his stomach with his beard.  A little touch to the nose results in a huge toothless smile.  Charlie loves playing in his Exersaucer and Johnny Jump-Up.  I love watching him explore and discover.  He loves to grip toys and put EVERYTHING in his mouth!  Towards the end of this month Charlie started making the most hilarious sound when he is excited or happy.  It literally sounds like a cat dying.  It's a combination of a high pitched screech and excited squeal.  I have never heard anything like it but it is music to my eyes every time I hear it now.
The best I could capture of the dying cat voice.

Toes.
Speaking of putting things in his mouth, one of his favorites are his toes.  Sometime this month Charlie started grabbing and pulling his toes into his mouth.  It's adorable.

I feed myself now!
Great Aunt Pat came to visit!

Precious.
Enjoying some gloriously warm weather with cousin Rosie.

The Not-So-Rosey
First cold. :(  Charlie had his first doctor appointment for a cold-runny nose, chest cough, small fever.  It was really hard to watch my little baby unable to blow his nose or cough up the congestion, but he was a tough guy and we got through it.  I am so grateful for my parents and Chaz's parents who are willing to drop everything on a moment's notice and help us out.  My mom and dad each took a day off work to stay with Charlie when we didn't think he should be near Rosie, and Kim drove down one day when Toni wasn't feeling well.  Charlie is so blessed to get to spend ample time with his grandparents!

Night time.  Oh boy has this been interesting.  I was spoiled for about two months when Charlie slept through the night in his car seat.  After reading an article about how that can be dangerous we went cold turkey with the crib.  He got sick right around the same time so I'm not sure if it was being sick or the crib that was waking him up about three times a night (probably both).  After Charlie got better he was back to one or two wake-ups per night.  Then this week we've taken a step backwards.  The past two nights we've been up every 1-2 hours with a screaming baby.  Sometimes milk soothes him, sometimes it doesn't.  Sometimes he won't lay flat, other times he will.  We're waiting it out to see if it's an ear infection, teething, or just a rough patch.  Either way, I am thanking God it is Spring Break because I haven't been this sleep deprived since he was born!  Hopefully we turn the corner soon.

Job Hunt.
Chaz is in the thick of job applications and student teaching.  Right now we are trusting in God to tell us where He wants us next year.  We will know by the end of March if we will be living in Papillion or Lincoln.  Right now there is so much uncertainty and it can be stressful, but I know I will look back at this time and see how God was working through it.  I am anxious for a resolution either way, as we are busting at the seams of our little one bedroom apartment.  Our goal is to own a home by the end of summer, but we will see how everything unfolds.

Lent. (A little bit of rosey and un-rosey)
Lent is my favorite time of the liturgical year.  We are given this time by the church to fast, pray, refocus and grow in discipline.  I have many areas in my life where I need to grow in virtue.  I hope to rid myself of some lazy and gluttonous habits and draw closer to Christ's suffering on the cross this Lent.  The biggest one on my mind lately is my constant connection to technology.  I have noticed especially during this week away from school how much I rely on checking my phone for Facebook updates, text messages, or scrolling through useless information on the internet.  I waste so much time distracting myself from living in the present moment and keeping my eyes on Heaven.  My prayer this Lent is to break this bad habit.
