4 Months Old

How quickly the days are melting by...if only the snow would follow suit!  Charlie's first winter is proving to be a brutally cold one.  On the plus side, I have greatly enjoyed two snow days at home with my family.  But as February marches on I cannot wait for Charlie to experience lazy summer days in the park or pool.  There are so many wonderful things I want to share with him.

Charlie is 4 months old today.  His chubby little cheeks grow every day.  Between the dimples and cheeks, I melt every time I look at this boy.  I mean, look at this kid-how lovable is he!?

Charlie brings so much joy to his father and I every day.  After a long day at work, coming home to him is indescribable.  I am finally learning what it means to compartmentalize my life and prioritize.  I have even gone entire nights without checking my work email or opening my computer.  This is huge for me.  I am improving at taking things one day at a time.  It is amazing how much faster time seems to fly when you focus on the present.  Instead of dreading the six week stretch until Spring Break, I focus on each evening at home with my husband and son.  All of a sudden it then becomes Friday and I have TWO WHOLE days to spend with them! I continue to ask God for the grace to live in the present.  Even as I look forward to summer, that will mean Charlie is eight months old.  We have so much to experience before that!

Here are a few of the many exciting things that occurred this past month.

My 25th Birthday:
I had a wonderful birthday with my friends and family.  Chaz and Charlie treated me to Granite City, then we spent a lazy evening at home together.  The following day, I was blessed to have Maeg, Kelby, and Michelle in town.  We had a great time catching up.  The next night we went to Nate and Toni's house to watch the Super Bowl.  While the game was a blowout, I had a wonderful time with my family.  My parents gave me a beautiful jewelry box.  It was a special gift that I will use the rest of my life.

Justin Timberlake Concert!
8 months ago my wonderful husband surprised me with a very early birthday gift-Justin Timberlake concert tickets.  This has been on my bucket list for a long time as Justin has been my favorite entertainer since I was ten.  On Feb. 10th we trekked up to Omaha for the show.  It was unbelievable-even worth the four hours of sleep before parent/teacher conferences!  Justin was a bit under the weather during the show but you couldn't tell.  It was so much fun.  For the second half of the show the stage moved to the opposite end of the arena-right in front of us.  I know he will be one of those entertainers that will still be famous when my kids are grown, and I'll be able to tell them I saw him live!

Charlie's laugh:
His laugh continues to make us smile and we are starting to hear it more and more.  Some of my favorite moments are the sleepy laughs right before he drifts off.

Reaching for his blanket:
Man, this boy loves his blankey. When he gets in his favorite bouncy chair or carseat he reaches for his blanket, smiles and pulls it up over his face.

Speaking of reaching for things...Charlie has begun reaching his arms towards me when he wants to be picked up.  It seems like a small milestone, but I love the feeling of being needed every time he does this.

Teething?
The poor little guy has been drooling and sucking on his (and my!) hands like crazy this month. He has seemed a littler fussier than usual too.  I know he is young, but I think his teeth might be descending towards his gums, causing him discomfort.  He will still suck on anything BUT a pacifier!

Holy Mass:
I feel so blessed every time I attend Mass with Chaz and Charlie.  As he becomes more aware I strive to make sure he will always be aware of the presence of Jesus in the church.  As Charlie grows Chaz and I have the wonderful challenge of figuring out how to teach him about our rich and beautiful faith.  The innocence of a child is unbelievable.  I know I will grow so much in my relationship with Christ because of him.  On a different note, Mass also happened to be the first social situation where Charlie became over-stimulated and the tears came out.  Thus the days of taking our children out of church have begun!

Is it baseball season yet?
