Two Months Old!
Charlie turned two months old on Wednesday, December 18. At his two month checkup two days later he weighed in at 14 lb 4 oz and 24 inches long. His weight puts him in the 95th percentile! As if you can't tell by the Michelin man rolls he's developed. :) Looks like he's taking after his mama quite well.
Our little man is growing so fast the days blur together and memories become fuzzy. For instance, last week at Mass he woke up in his carseat. Chaz took him out and sat him upright on his lap to keep him happy. All of a sudden it struck me, when did our newborn get old enough to sit on Daddy's lap and hold his head up? He isn't a newborn anymore. I already feel like I've forgotten what it's like to need to prop his head in my arms constantly.
Milestones this month:
-First Thanksgiving! The only photo I managed to snap.
-Holding his head up (right at the end of the second month)
-Smiles galore-Mommy got the first smile, but now anyone who playfully taps his dimples or his nose will be greeted with the most adorable grin.
-New gurgles and higher pitched noises, sometimes a subtle laugh.
-Slept through the night TWICE! Both times in his car seat! We left for a meeting one night at 6pm. He slept through the meeting and all night when we got home until 4:45am! I woke up around 3am in a dead panic looking for him. What is it about the car seat? Who knows? Babies are so unpredictable.
-We set up his crib and he now sleeps in it pretty well! That was another "wow" moment. One day Chaz laid him in his cradle and flatly said, he cannot sleep in this anymore. Sure enough-his little legs were too long and hung over the edge. My colleague Jodi gave us her old crib to use. It took us two hours to set it up and figure out the puzzle of how to fit it in our bedroom. Every square inch of wall space now has a purpose in our room!
-Figuring out how great of a burper Charlie is, and how forgetting to burp him results in a cranky baby and a lot of spit up.
-I am cheating a lot with the dairy fast. So far his tummy has been fine. Over Christmas I am going to try reintroducing a few dairy items to my diet to see if he has grown out of it. I miss cheese so much...
-Discovering his hands. Charlie has started using his hands to help hold his bottle (or push it away), grasp at things (he even grabbed a ball out of my hand!) and touch his face. It is adorable to watch.
-First shots. This was really hard for me, but Charlie took them like a champ. He stopped crying as soon as they were done, and was hardly fussy the rest of the day. I on the other hand, had myself so worked up I was in tears before they even gave them to him!
-Fell asleep during tummy time...
-Returning to work. This was more of a milestone for me than Charlie. I went back the Monday after Thanksgiving. It was a very emotional day for me but my good mom came over to help me transition. The transition back has been as smooth as possible thanks to the generosity of my mom, Chaz's parents, Toni, and Chaz's flexible schedule. It will get a little bit tougher in January when I have to take him to Toni's everyday, but on the bright side we will also be on a tight routine. It is difficult to be away from my baby everyday, but I trust that I am doing what is best for my family right now, and God has given me the grace to make this sacrafice.
