One Month
Nov. 18, 2013
Little Chunk is one month old today. He gets more adorable by the minute. Also heavier by the minute. At his one month appointment he weighed in at 11 lb 1 oz, the 90th percentile. That's almost four pounds of weight in four weeks. I felt very vindicated by this number considering he wants to eat all. the. time. I'm satisfied knowing all this milking is worth it. Charlie is 23 inches long this month, also the 90th percentile for length. Looks like he's well on his way to inheriting his mom's fat baby genes. :)
As I leaned over to get him out of his car seat using my best baby talk voice, he flashed a wide smile with dimples for miles. As of right now, I'm still the only person who earns 'real' smiles.
-milk, milk, and more milk.
-the swing! He definitely didn't like it at first, but (thankfully) as I write he is sleeping peacefully in it. This makes for one happy mama.
-snuggles.
-light and mirrors. I love watching him stretch his neck to look over his shoulder at any light or mirror that might be catching his eye. By the way, this little dude has a very strong neck already. He's probably just a couple weeks away from holding his head up.
-when Mom eats dairy. Those have been rough nights. It's been rough for me to give up most of my favorite foods (ice cream, pizza, anything with butter, etc. etc.) but far less rough than watching poor babe squirm with a tummy ache for hours.
-bath time. If Charlie could talk he would probably say, "I don't HATE it, but I also don't understand the concept yet".
Right now I am so thankful for this month I have been able to spend at home with my little guy. As I return to work in less than two weeks I know it is going to take a physical and emotional toll on me, but I am thankful to have a job and be able to help support my family. I know Charlie will be in good hands with Toni. I also am excited for him to grow up with Rosie. Rose already loves him to pieces, so I can smile thinking of the fun they will have.

Milestones:
-Nov. 14: First real smile at mom. We had just returned home from dropping Chaz off at class. As I leaned over to get him out of his car seat using my best baby talk voice, he flashed a wide smile with dimples for miles. As of right now, I'm still the only person who earns 'real' smiles.
-Nov. 16: Only woke up twice during the night! I wouldn't count this as a milestone, except he's been doing it consistently since. And once I go back to work it will technically only be one time during the night, since I will be getting up for good with him at 5am.
-Charlie has started grasping things like my hair and Chaz's sweatshirt drawstrings. His gaze and tracking ability improve everyday.
Big fan of:
-sleepy smiles and even some laughs. I don't think they are intentional yet, but nonetheless adorable.-milk, milk, and more milk.
-the swing! He definitely didn't like it at first, but (thankfully) as I write he is sleeping peacefully in it. This makes for one happy mama.

Not so fond of:
-the car seat. Once we get in the car and get going he falls right asleep. However buckling him in and stopping at red lights receive lots of disapproving grunts. (Have I mentioned how blessed I am that this baby rarely cries!? Responding to a grunt with the same urgency as a screaming baby probably seems pretty humorous, but that is how he tells me he's unhappy.)-when Mom eats dairy. Those have been rough nights.
