July
How is it July already?
I always dreaded the 4th of July because it seemed like every day after was a downhill slide into the school year. Every summer it feels like July 4th comes sooner. While I still get a bit of a sinking feeling when I ponder the end of summer, I have a lot more to look forward to this year. (Marriage, for one thing) This year's 4th of July will be without a doubt one of the best of my life. Most of my friends will be back in town, Siena is hosting a barbecue for the evening, and our gracious neighbor Murph has given us dozens of fireworks to shoot off. It will be Siena's last hurrah before Megan, Michelle, and I move out. I think it's safe to say we're all excited for the future, but also in a little bit of denial about our house breaking up. Might as well go out with a bang.
Last night Michelle, Megan, and I went to our friend Steve's house to hang out with some friends. We had a blast catching up with old friends and just enjoying the summer night. The guys had music on all night. Eric Church came out with a song recently called "Springsteen". Something about that song always gets everyone off their feet and singing along. One line of the song makes me a little nostalgic when I remember some of my favorite nights growing up.
"Funny how a melody sounds like a memory
Like a soundtrack to a July Saturday night"
This morning as I thought about last night I pondered the irony of Eric Church singing about a song that brings him memories-no doubt Springsteen will be one of those songs for me.
