Weekend fun

This weekend was jam-packed with wonderful moments!
Friday night, Chaz and I went on a double date with two of our best friends, Beth and Josh.  It was the first time we'd gotten to double date, and it was so much fun! Anyone who knows Chaz knows he is a huge baseball fan.  I mean huge.  I knew the Huskers were playing in their final home series this weekend, and thought it would be fun for us to go.  Beth and Josh also love baseball, so it seemed like the perfect idea.  The next perfect idea was to surprise Chaz. To pull off a great surprise, we had to think of the girliest date possible to tell him we were going to do.  What did we think of?  Paint Yourself Silly, of course.  Everyone got in on the fun, even Beth's mom.  I've never seen Chaz fake excitement so much in my life.  It was great.  Josh drove us around the Haymarket looking for parking, and luckily there were no spots, so it made perfect sense to look for parking around Haymarket Park.  Chaz didn't think anything of it, he even commented, "big game tonight" as we passed the ball field.  Finally, as we were paying to enter the baseball parking lot, I could tell he still had no clue.  I finally said, "Chaz, we're actually not going to Paint Yourself Silly.  We're going to the baseball game."  The look on his face was priceless.  I actually thought he might tear up.  :)
The best part of the night (besides the Huskers getting a 'W') was that Beth and Josh's uncle gave us his extra tickets.  Here's where we sat:
Talk about best seats in the house!
After the game we grabbed a bite to eat and then a drink at Doc's, one of Chaz and I's favorite bars.
It was so much fun to catch up with the Santos, spend quality time together, and just have fun.  We really miss them when they're not here, but know God is doing great things through them on college campuses.  I am so thankful for their friendship.

Saturday was another chance to spend time with a lifelong friend.  Brittany is getting married in less than a month, and we hosted her bridal shower at my house.   The theme fit Britt perfectly:
She loves the Beatles, and the title was too good to pass up! Fourteen lovely women came to celebrate Brittany and Jesse, and we had fun recalling memories with Britt.

I recognize how incredibly blessed I am to be lifelong friends with the girls I grew up with.  We formed the "Myrtle Street Gang" in middle school and are still going strong!  Brittany will be the second out of the four of us to get married.  It has been amazing watching God work in the lives of Beth, Sara, and Brittany, and I know he will continue to write our stories together as we transition to adulthood.

Then last night I attended my little brother Nick's soccer game.  They were playing in Omaha in the state semifinals.  Although they didn't win, they played with heart.  Nick has had an amazing soccer season.  He is a gifted athlete, and it makes me proud to watch him.  What makes me the most proud is that he plays with passion and competitiveness, but not anger or cockiness.  He likes to pretend he's a big deal, :-)  but he has the sweetest heart.  Here's a nice picture of him the local paper took after his goal:

Finally, today I visited both my mom and grandmother in honor of Mother's Day.  Again, I am so blessed to have a mother who loves me and supports me so much.  She inspired me to become a teacher and has supported me during the ups and downs of my first year.  She protects and guides her children, and is so selfless with each of us.  I aspire to be like her someday when I am a mother.  Thank you, Mom.

How can I forget to think of my heavenly mother, Mary, on this day?  Mary is the perfect model of motherhood for all of us.  She is everything pure, holy, and good.  She loves all of us, her children, so much, and petitions the Father constantly on our behalf.  I can relate to Mary so intimately as a woman.  All the earthly things we go through, she has experienced too.  How fitting that Mother's Day falls in the month of May, which is the month devoted to Mary.  Mary, mother of Jesus, pray for us!  God bless all mothers and expecting mothers today!
